As most/some may be aware, next Tuesday night, the 28th, the Splinter comp will be running at Fioretto, just down the road from Monash. For those of you who don't know what Splinter is, it's a mixed teams comp between Monash and Fioretto. There is a team for each weapon, and whoever wins 2 out of the 3 wins the trophy. The comp started in about '95, and Monash won it for the first two years running ;D. The trophy then mysteriously disappeared for a couple of years before turning up again a little while ago.
Teams selected to represent Monash are as follows: Foil Alex Freddy Tam Reserves:Steve and Miranda Epee Tim Liam Miranda Reserves: Jess and Steve
Sabre Steve Ben Tam Reserves: Miranda and Tim
Congratulations to all those selected. We will be meeting at the fencing area at 7pm on the Tuesday night to organise the gear and everything.

Hey all, How did we go? And is there something relating to the splinter this coming Tues? Someone mentioned something about going to fioretto again and it hasn't been on the board (that I can access anyway), or via e-mail. Thanks, Anthony

Yes, you're right. The splinter isn't quite finished yet, we didn't have time to do the Epee. Although, our epeeists were practicing with them, and I've got a feeling we're a good chance of beating them in that.
Unfortunately, the result is still set, since Fioretto won both sabre and foil. It was all very well fenced though, they had a very good sabre team, and the foil was incredibly close - we came back from 40-35 to lose 45-44!
They may be doing a bit of a presentation type thing with the trophy next tuesday also. I think this all went pretty well, look out for more team comps like this in the future!

Oh, and apologies to our newly-elected armourers... the sabre I was using mysteriously detached itself from the tang, and I found myself holding nothing but the guard, while the blade flew across the room... Whoops

We didn't get around to the epee in the end. But we're gunna fence the epee anyway this tuesday night at Fioretto, so everyone should come to support our team and for the actual presentation of the splinter.

So how does it work this Tues? Turn up at the cage? Turn up at fioretto? (which is where?) and when? I'll try to make an appearance, Thanks, Anthony

Turn up at cage around seven. Fioretto is two minutes drive away (same road as my place), so we'll gather at the cage and leave from there. Will send the epee team and some others, while other people can stay behind and get some lessons from Chris while everyone else is gone.

And, finally, the results for the Epee:
Monash: 45 Fioretto: 36
Hooray! Well done to all, Liam and Miranda continued the good form they've had all year, while Kazuya and Ryoichi pretty much tore Fioretto apart with some very impressive, and explosive, fencing.
