This will be in the middle of exams for most people, but on Sunday the 31st, starting at 10am, there will be a foil competition at VRI. Its a bit different to your normal comp though, as it runs on a handicap system, to even out the competition. The more experienced fencers could enter a bout at something like 0 or -1, fencing a beginner who starts with a score of 4 in the pools. And in the DE a beginner could find themselves 13-0 up before a single point is fenced. It'll basically be a day of fun, fencing and insanely good prizes (apparantly) If anyone's up for a break from the study and is interested or just wants some more info, just contact me or come see me at fencing.

13 points up in DE?! Awesome! (assuming I don't get knocked out based on the pools - even with the massive handicap!) ;D

from when we were visiting VRI, the impression I got was that the handicaps were adjusted so that ay bout was likely to finish 14-15 or similar, to make it exciting for all.
Also, the aim is to aparrently make life hell for chris and the other experienced fencers, such that they are not likely to win.
Just a pity the shop people were not as eager to talk to us as the president...

Hi guys! I feel like a bit of an intruder here... I'd heard lots of good things about the website, so thought I'd check it out! Yes - the Handicap is on this Sunday, and we DO have lots of great prizes and fencing footage etc etc... we've got about 40 people entered so far, plus extras from other clubs, so it will be well worth your while coming along for a good fence! See you there!

Of course not, you (and anyone else for that matter) are more than welcome on here... the more the merrier! For a start, not even the first person to sign up was from Monash And I've heard a little about the past prizes for the handicap... it was enough to convince a couple of our guys to head over there this weekend, despite their impending exams. Have Fun ;D

Great! Well, as for this year's prizes, there's an awfully large amount of alcohol (to be consumer responsibly of course! ), $50 vouchers to Ikea/Freedom/etc etc, 1 hr massages, cd's, fencing gear, aromatherapy products... etc. Oh! and a yummy bbq that needs to be consumed. Weather forecast is 28C, so it should be a terrific day! (And definitely not one to be studying on!)

So did anyone go? And if so how did you fare? Was it exciting as it was made out to be? It should have been good fun

Ben and I went to the comp. We didn't get very far, but it was a great day, and kinda funny to watch some of the top fencers in the state come up against 8 year olds whose foils were almost longer than the kids were tall.
